Algeria called on Tuesday for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting to address the situation in Gaza.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. New York time (3 p.m. Algiers time) at the UN Security Council headquarters in New York.
Last Thursday, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Benjama, advocated for an immediate ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 1701.
During a Security Council briefing on “The Situation in the Middle East – Including the Palestinian Question,” Benjama also reminded the Council that its resolutions explicitly prohibit the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
He condemned the fact that “the Zionist entity is slowly killing Palestinians in Gaza by starving them, intensifying the blockade, and obstructing humanitarian aid access.”
