Ukraine Has the Potential for a Successful Counteroffensive

The representative of the US Department of Defense commented on the course of the Ukrainian counteroffensive operation

A Ukrainian counteroffensive will take time and involve heavy fighting, but the United States is confident that the Ukrainian military has every opportunity to succeed, Deputy Pentagon Spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said Tuesday.

Commenting on the progress of the counteroffensive at a press briefing, Singh said that the Pentagon always knew that the Ukrainians would not be able to instantly defeat the enemy: during the winter and spring, Russian troops prepared powerful defensive structures in the territory they occupied.

“This battle is getting harder every day. We know this fight will be difficult and we know it will take time,” Singh said, highlighting the Pentagon’s belief that “Ukrainians have what they need.”

“They have combat power, they have the ability to be successful in their counter-offensive operations. We … gave Ukraine the systems, the capabilities they need right now in their fight,” Singh said.

According to a Pentagon spokesman, combat losses are an inevitable and “unfortunate part of this war.” However, the military assistance packages previously handed over to Kyiv “are helping the Ukrainians in their daily struggle, and we believe that what we have provided them will enable them to succeed on the battlefield.”

Singh stressed that the United States will also continue to provide assistance in training Ukrainian combat units.

In turn, as the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine notes, heavy fighting continues in the Donbass in the direction of Liman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Marinka. During the day, there were 39 combat clashes. The enemy has pulled up reserves and is actively advancing in the Limansky and Kupyansky directions, trying to seize the initiative. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar.
