UN Envoy Urges Libyan Authorities to Protect Children’s Rights to Education, Safety

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, on Tuesday urged the Libyan authorities to protect the rights of children to education, healthcare and safety.

Bathily made the call during an event held in the capital Tripoli to honor children rights champions from across Libya.

“I commended the remarkable contributions of these young champions, who tirelessly advocate for the protection of child rights in their communities. I am impressed with their active engagement for national reconciliation, peace and stability in a united Libya,” Bathily said.

“Libyan authorities and political leaders should listen to the concerns and demands of the children, the real future of the country,” he said, urging the protection of children’s rights to education, healthcare, safety and participation.

Due to years of armed conflict and political instability, Libyan authorities have been struggling to provide basic services for the people, mainly proper education and healthcare.
