The President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes El-Menfi, today praised Algeria’s significant role in promoting stability and unity in Libya under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
During a joint press conference with President Tebboune following their discussions at the Presidential Palace, El-Menfi expressed his appreciation for the President’s vital contributions to fostering the unity and stability of the Libyan state. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of Libyan territory, stating that this is “extremely important.”
He noted that they agreed the resolution to Libya’s political crisis lies in organizing parliamentary and presidential elections, asserting that “any alternative solutions will not yield the desired outcomes.” He reaffirmed that it is the Libyan people who have the right to choose their representatives in government.
El-Menfi also acknowledged Algeria’s essential support for Libya’s stability across various international platforms, emphasizing that this assistance is “sincere and without ulterior motives.”
He highlighted their agreement on all initiatives aimed at fostering stability in Libya and the broader region, which includes efforts to “complete the trilateral meetings, both at the summit level and within committees, in the upcoming phase, while further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.”
After expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, El-Menfi conveyed his hope that the successful presidential elections in both Algeria and Tunisia would act as a catalyst for Libya to conduct its own presidential elections as soon as possible.
